Artist Statement

The beauty of Japanese art is characterized by delicateness and fragility. The fragility of those brief moments are cherished, admired, and sought after. Growing up in this Japanese culture: in a traditional Japanese household, surrounded by books, history and nature, has profoundly influenced my view of the world.

The aspect of art I find most compelling is story telling. Capturing brief moments that are delicate and beautiful is my source of inspiration. I strive to communicate those moments in a way that will impact the minds of my viewers forever. It is challenging to adequately convey my emotions through words and language alon. Creating art is my way of telling stories that cannot be fully expressed through lengthy texts. This to me, makes art the most valuable and effective way of communication.

Culture is cultivated in layers over time. Whatever medium I use, watercolor, acrylic, ink or oil, the layering of paint becomes a crucial part of my creative process. The literal accumulation of layers of paint, and their symbolic function of representing time and thought, captures the delicateness and beauty of the fragile moments I desire to portray.
